Women’s Role in Crafting Book Covers is an editorial design and archival research project exploring the contributions of women to the history of graphic design, book cover design, and publishing. Inspired by the exhibition The Book Beautiful: Margaret Armstrong & Her Bindings at the New York Society Library, the project examines the often-overlooked role of women in shaping visual culture through book design.

Drawing from historical research and archival sources, the publication focuses on pioneering female designers, with particular attention to Margaret Armstrong and her influence on bookbinding, ornamentation, typography, and visual communication during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

The publication takes a minimal, typographic approach, using hierarchy, composition, and layout to organize historical content. Rather than relying on imagery, typography becomes the primary visual and structural element, allowing the research to shape the reading experience.
